DAY 38 – 24 April 2020

So a beautiful day in lockdown is at a close. Definitely a better day than yesterday but challenging nevertheless. To be honest I’m not sure if it was as sunny inside our house as it was outside.
We started with the best of intentions after a fairly late wake up (by our standards) and was all prepared to go ahead with our Noise day. Sadly it was all downhill from there as before we really got going with the noise themed activities the kids decided between themselves to change the day to Naughtiness. Now every day is naughty day when you are my offspring but today they were into everything just looking for trouble. M even refused to have his nap this afternoon despite pushing him around during our lunchtime walk, juice was poured on the floor, things were pushed OUT through the letterbox and so it went on.
There were some positives – Steph made some amazing maple and pecan muffins. The recipe was for the 12 but we somehow ended up with 20. Don’t worry – the extra 8 have been disposed of already…
So what delights did the kids have for us in today’s top 5?

1. We did a lovely bit of family yoga first thing today (Wonky Donkey!) which was before the naughtiness kicked in fully. I always thought yoga was based on relaxation and the release of air through various orifices but actually it’s quite hard work! My downward dog got a good work out and M seemed keen to help me push the last of the air out of my lungs. 💨
2. M’s first big bit of naughtiness was smashing up E’s big pink plastic cup. We’ve had it for a while and unbeknownst to me there are two parts to it with the outside section full of about 200 small plastic balls full of some kind of cooling gel. Presumably that helps keeps the drink inside cool but to our 22 month old it is just a challenge. Those balls could be fun to play with! So imagine Steph’s delight when she walked into the living room to find the whole floor covered. She couldn’t event hoover them up in case they popped so had to gather them up by hand. No surprise that the kids didn’t help to clean up! 🥤
3. We were delighted to receive a FaceTime from Nanna this afternoon who had received her surprise flower delivery from us. Even the smallest gesture can make such a difference during difficult times and she loved seeing the kids in the background continuing to cause carnage. They were bouncing on our bed like a trampoline (again!) and then pinned me down on it and bounced on me like a trampoline (owww!) Whilst we were distracted on the call they then headed into the en suite and turned the tap on. They were just washing their hands however so I guess the government message is getting through. Finally M took off at pace back into the bathroom and decided he wanted a shower. He didn’t realise however that the shower screen was closed. Booom! Possibly the funniest thing I’ve ever seen! He was fine, don’t worry, so it’s acceptable to laugh at him crashing into the transparent sliding door! 🤣
4. To try and distract them from being horror bags, Steph decided to put on M’s favourite movies this afternoon. Peter Pan and Frozen. I’ve never been so happy that I had to work this afternoon. I thought we had moved past Frozen with E but who would have predicted that M would be so obsessed with it. E even has an Elsa doll which sings that ******* song when you twist her arm. She hates the thing but M carries it round like a comfort blanket. What’s worse is the batteries are running out so the song is even more whiny than normal as it falls out of tune half way through. I wonder if I twist his arm…. ❄️
5. A particular highlight of the whole lockdown has been E’s random chats. It turns out that today she announced she wants another sibling. Steph immediately put that idea to bed whilst Daddy was slightly more relaxed. The problem for Steph was that on the lunchtime walk we had found a dandelion and E knew to make a wish whilst she blew the seeds away (she calls it a wishing leaf). And everyone knows the wish always comes true. Fortunately for Steph, I found out that the wish wasn’t for a baby brother or sister but instead that it would be her birthday. She was crushed when I told her it wouldn’t come true as she had told me what the wish was and it had to be a secret! Guess what she’s off looking for tomorrow and she’s too bright to make the same mistake again. Lots of secret wishes to come and no doubt triplets for us in 9 months time…. 😩
