DAY 192 – 25 September 2020

Well the finish line has been crossed and we can chalk up another week. The kids are very excited about the forthcoming weekend. I have no idea why as we have no plans, except apparently for Daddy/daughter playtime with the Sylvanian families. I can’t wait! For a bit of a change I thought today’s top 5 should be lessons I have learnt. Every day a school day, even for daddies!

1. Once the heating goes on, there’s no turning back. It’s only going to get colder and your wife gets far too comfortable. It’s only the second day and already the temperature setting is getting higher with poor M getting the blame. I didn’t know he was that skilled with the settings! 🥵

2. If you suddenly decide you want a packed lunch rather than school dinners you just plonk yourself on the toilet shortly before leaving the house and start having a poo. That way you might miss the cut off and force your parents to sort you a packed lunch instead. You may be thwarted in this plan by your mother wiping your bum for you and throwing you into the car. 😂

3. I’ve somehow turned into that parent who gets really excited to pick his little boy up from nursery. Very unexpectedly this afternoon I got a little giddy pulling into the car park and that feeling only got stronger when he appeared, charged towards me shouting “Daddy” and gave me a massive hug! Clearly I’m just as sloppy as ever. 🤗

4. My offsprings’ stomachs are bottomless pits that will never ever be filled no matter what is tipped into them. Tonight’s special was crisps and hummus which they fought over in true sibling style. If this is what they are like at 5 and 2, what about when they are 15 and 12? I’ve decided I need to start a food fund now rather than a university fund! 🐷

5. I really need to pay more attention to the detail of my child’s homework. After spending all week making sure E could recognise and clearly say all the words written out in her homework book I was shocked to find that she had only managed 60% in today’s test. It was only then that I read the top of the list to see that it was all about spelling the words and not just saying them. How many times had I told people to “read the question carefully!” I’m now mortified that I’m holding back my child’s education – must try harder! 😳
