DAY 21 – 7 April 2020

Well, what a difference a good nights sleep makes! Suddenly Monday becomes Tuesday and the weather seems a little brighter, the birdsong seems a little sweeter and the dirty nappies seem a little less pungent! I woke up this morning feeling refreshed and energised and invincible. M got up at 7am and E just after 8am. We couldn’t believe it!
So, to whoever snuck into our house overnight and swapped back our children and took away their evil twins, thank you thank you thank you!!! 🙏🏻
The tantrums were replaced with pleases and thank yous. Hating meals was replaced with empty plates. The naughty step wasn’t even mentioned let alone used. So all in all Steph behaved herself too.
I can’t help but think the good weather is a blessing at the moment with the kids spending big chunks of the day out in the garden burning off their energy and getting some fresh air. Check me out with my new found optimism and rose tinted glasses. Watch this space just in case it all comes crashing down tomorrow!
So, what were the snippets of joy that filled my day?

1. I took the kids out for our usual lunchtime walk which was particularly pleasant today in the midday sun. E likes to drag her heels and seems to come up with inventive excuses as to why. Today we started with role playing of Princess Jasmine (who, incidentally gets whatever she wants whenever she wants it) but when almost home we had a very strange exchange.
“Come on E, keep up!”
“Sorry Daddy, I was speaking to the mole”
“What mole?”
“The mole back there… he wanted me to…. to take my pants off. He’s a rude mole.”
I’m not sure whether to be concerned or just laugh, as the woman walking past at the time did! 👸🏼
2. Another E classic from tonight.
“Daddy can we watch Paw Patrol?”
“No E, M is watching In the Night Garden before he goes to bed.”
“But after that can we? Can you teach me how to change the channel with the controller like a big girl. Because I am a big girl and I need to know these things. Because I’ll need to do it myself soon when I move out into my own house and marry Jamie!”
How on earth did we get from Paw Patrol to her moving out and marrying Jamie?!? 👰
3. M has continued his switch from hunger strike to gannet, eating everything in sight! Suddenly his 4 square meals a day and all his snacks inbetween are insufficient and he has to resort to eating the soft furnishings too. I’m guessing my essential trips to the supermarket will be increasing in frequency! 🛋
4. My wife and daughter spent the morning doing Easter activities like something out of a storybook. Lovely crafting skills being developed and some beautiful decorations and Easter cards to show for it at the end. The most important thing to come out of this however was a reminder that there’s only 3 sleeps until the end of lent and we can break into the chocolate stash!!!!! 🐣
5. I’ve had to replace my last one this evening with something that has only just happened. Steph will kill me for sharing but she’s just asked if I’m still writing my diary and when I said yes she asked if I needed any more “antidotes”!! Think she meant anecdotes and has just been watching too much news recently! 💊
