DAY 20 – 6 April 2020

I can basically sum up today with a single GIF! No schooling, no patience and more cracks here than when making omelettes! Even writing in my diary feels like a step too far. I’m therefore going straight to the 5 lows of the day:

1. 4am starts. He’s not big and he’s not funny yet M is adamant he is both and has developed a phobia of sleeping past 4am. Lying in bed ignoring him does not work and eventually I had to drag my carcass through to his room to find him wide awake and ready for some Peppa Pig (the only thing he would stop crying for). Oh woe me! What has my life become?!? 🐷
2. Mondays. How can every other day of the week blur into each other yet a Monday is very clearly a Monday and brings with it all the usual negatives of a blue Monday? I did have a fleeting thought that it was a four day week this week (normally a cause for celebration and hope!) but let’s be honest it isn’t like we are going away for a long weekend!! 🔵
3. Trashed lunch. My wonderful wife made me a really tasty BBQ chicken wrap for lunch, coming upstairs to drag me off my computer and surprise me with the news the kids were already fed and my lunch was ready in the kitchen. I bounded down the stairs thinking that perhaps my Monday was looking up, only to find my perfectly prepared lunch completely trashed and strewn across the kitchen floor with my monster son nibbling round the edges. How he managed that whilst leaving the plate untouched on the counter is beyond me. 🧽
4. Toddler on the loose. Straight after lunch I took the horror bags out for their walk just to get some fresh air. We take M’s pushchair so we can hopefully put him in at some point and then push him off to sleep. The point at which he is put in the pushchair is getting earlier and earlier on each walk as he is just not interested in walking the same way as Daddy and E. The speed of the boy is something else as well. I need reactions of a preying mantis and the speed of a cheetah. I think tomorrow I’ll just strap him before we go out the door! 🐆
5. Our Five-ager. Not to be outdone by her younger sibling, E also chose today to search very hard and managed to find every single one of her mother’s buttons, making sure each and every one were pushed multiple times. Lovely stories of Mammy/daughter dance routines and games in the garden were quickly replaced with screaming matches and a LOT of stomping. When her tea was yucky and thrown over the floor (the second meal of the day to seal its fate in this way – see above) enough was definitely enough and Daddy was put in charge of bedtime! 😤
