Saturday night eh? Not sure how we got here. First day of E’s Easter holidays and a very wise woman told me this morning that it should make this lockdown easier as there’s no expectation of #HomeSchooling for 2 weeks. Only problem with that is that normally we would be able to go somewhere with the monsters, day trips, usually a visit to see family, play dates etc. School holidays trapped in your house with your children 24/7 do not, in my book at least, count as real holidays.
A definite highlight of today was hosting the first Durham City Aquatics online quiz which I think went really well. It wasn’t until afterwards I realised I was up against Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway but there were a lot of similarities as I saw into a lot of people’s living rooms and, like Ant, I had a little sidekick too.
A few little observations for today:
1. Back to shop today. It was necessary (not just a jaunt) and as always it was nice change of scenery. Every 3 minutes there was an announcement reminding shoppers to stay 2 metres apart. It appears that almost everyone heard that announcement for what it was – a reminder to be socially responsible. It also appears that 4 or 5 people heard it as a cancellation of the social distancing rules and took it as a personal mission to get as close to me as possible whilst passing by. Now, I enjoy a complete stranger rubbing up against me just as much as the next man but perhaps not in the current climate! 👥
2. I’m worried E is beginning to hit her lockdown wall. We are up to about 4 tantrums a day. Most unnecessary one today was about Daddy’s attempt to help paint a flower.
“Daddy, can you paint a sunflower”
“I’ll have a go”
“DADDY that’s a sunflower. I wanted a daffodil!”
“Well you didn’t say that, you said a sunflower. I’m just trying to help you”
“YOU’VE RUINED IT DADDY. THESE ARE ALL DAFFODILS AND THAT DOESN’T LOOK RIGHT. IT’S THE WRONG SHAPE. WHAT IS THE POINT?” Cue screaming, stomping and then tears 🤬
3. The weather seems to be improving. Great! We piled our into the garden this morning to do some sand art(!) and a bit of light gardening. Lots of photos from other parts of the country showing lovely sunny weather. Might have a BBQ tomorrow. But I can’t help but feel that actually the sun wasn’t really here and it was quite cold. The last thing we need now is disappointing weather! 🥶
4. Right, I’ll make this as clear as I possibly can so even M understands. It. Is. Completely. Unnecessary. And. Unacceptable. For. You. To. Start. The. Day. At. 4.30AM! Your mother is exhausted and if you’re not careful she’s going to start expecting Daddy to get up with you and that will not end well for anyone. You have been warned! 🥱
5. Most men (don’t mean that to be sexist!) appear to have been clearing out their garages alongside all those other jobs they have been putting off for years. I am no exception and happened upon a box full of hats, which then came in handy for the quiz tonight. Whilst clearly this is complete justification for having a box of hats stored away untouched for 10+ years (ready for emergency events like this) apparently I just keep “crap” for no good reason and everything of mine should be thrown out immediately presumably to make room for a gin store or multiple shoe racks. Sod that, I’m sticking to my guns!! 🎩
