DAY 17 – 3 April 2020

Everything is back to front these days. Normally going to the shops or taking the bin in are tedious chores – now they are weekly highlights. Normally Friday night is when we kick back, relax and have a drink – now we’ve drunk the house dry over the last 4 nights so we’re left tearing the house apart looking for any left over Christmas presents that contain miniatures!
The #HomeSchooling continues and we are onto day I already. E picked Ice so cue some very cold scientific experiments (more below). I’ll confess I’m quite relieved that we get 2 days off from that although big decision whether we start the Easter holidays proper and put away all the jotters and workbooks and worksheets for a fortnight.
Today was actually a busy day and we didn’t stop so here’s my top 5:

1. Street Dancing. After being rained off yesterday my amazing neighbours came out in force for our first ever Street Dance this afternoon. I can only describe it as being back at uni on a Tuesday night out and it gets to 1am in the club and you’ve had a skinful. You think you suddenly know how to dance and all your inhibitions have gone as an absolute CHOON comes on. The only difference now is you suddenly realise your kids are there. And your neighbours. And the dog walkers passing the bottom of the street. And you’re outside. And it’s the middle of the afternoon. And you’re sober. In this crazy world I now can’t wait for next week! 🕺🏼
2. Grandad. Grandad Jim turned up today to drop off some essentials including a circus tent for the kids to play with. It very quickly became a sleepover tent and weirdly a bumper car. The kids were very keen to help erect it and whilst E probably did help, M just ended up sitting on the floor sucking the poles! 🎪
3. Ice. My wife was in charge of ice experiments today. From what I can gather, all she did was throw some small plastic toys into ice cube trays and chuck that in the freezer. She then got them out later on and got E to pour various things on them, salt, bicarbonate, vinegar etc. What appears to have been learnt is that Emma likes the smell of vinegar and she now keeps trying to sniff the bottle. Great stuff! 🧊
4. Joseph. I sat with the kids tonight and watched Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat live on YouTube. I haven’t seen it for years but boy do the songs all come back just like it was yesterday. Trying to explain why Joan Collins was ripping off Donny Osmond’s clothes was a bit awkward and apparently Daddy doesn’t have a good singing voice. Clearly I need to work on my singing AND dancing! 🎶
5. Cheese. I went to the fridge this morning and it just sighed and said “what now?” This is a big problem with #RemoteWorking and I’m trying very hard not to snack, but today has been all about the cheese. I am genuinely growing whiskers and a tail. Emmental, Apricot Wensleydale and Brie were all consumed and of course my kids won’t touch any as they are not Scottish cheese. Apparently that’s all they will eat on the cheese front, but I think they’re just pulling my leg as I know they are always up to no Gouda. 🧀
