DAY 16 – 2 April 2020

Well not really sure what happened as I’m pretty sure I’ve just finished writing Day 15. Today has disappeared in a flash and I’m not sure how. I can’t help wondering if we’re all in some kind of time wormhole meaning when we come out the other side of this we could be back in the 19th century or else moved forward into 2120. Either way I’m pleased we still have a good, healthy supply of toilet roll to get us through!
E’s choices for the daily themes continue and weirdly she picked Healthy Eating for day H. Not quite sure how she even knows what that is given she would very happily live entirely on chicken nuggets, chips and ketchup (3 times a day). But her wish is our command and she had Weetabix for breakfast. That was about it to be honest as the shift pattern for Steph and I went out the window today and somehow we just muddled through to bedtime – my hair dressing skills are continuing to develop so that is something I suppose!
We went out to clap the NHS again tonight 👏 which coincided with taking the bin out. I mean when has taking the bin out ever counted as a weekly highlight? The answer is NOW – any legal and justifiable trip out of this house, no matter how short, is pure ecstasy!
Top 5 for today (roll the Top of the Pops music):

1. So, why would my wife decide to conduct a fire drill during my important multi party video conference call? Well, quite. I haven’t the foggiest either. Something about sausages and smoke interspersed with some very rude words so I’m none the wiser. And anyway, she told me off for wanting to do a fire drill on Day 2 but now it’s suddenly ok for her to try and get me to evacuate? 🔥
2. Den construction seems to be moving to a new level. After a strong start yesterday and presumably buoyed by the fact that her basic structure was not trashed by our two whirlwinds, I came down this afternoon to find a more elaborate design today including a fully stocked kitchen. I decided I had to bring her down a peg or two before she started trying multi story dens which would inevitably end in disaster. Well some things escalate quickly at the moment and apparently “Leave these things to a man, love” is not appropriate! 🙊
3. Nice little trip out with the kids at lunchtime – another daily highlight – however the sass that E is showing at the moment has reached another level. She’s 5 for goodness sake! Don’t you dare tell your Daddy he has to take the photo on your “best side” or that you have to swish your hair before the photo is taken! 📸
4. Peppa Pig. Right I’ve really tried hard not to comment on some of the nonsense the kids watch but this episode was ridiculous. Peppa gets a French penpal. Fair enough. They talk a bit of basic French. Possibly educational. The penpal is a Donkey. Acceptable given that they are all talking animals. After speaking on the phone (from France) the next day she turns up at Peppa’s door. I mean, how? Why would you do that after 1 letter? And how rude just turning up without being invited. Oh and she took her whole family! Height of rudeness if you ask me! If E has a penpal I’ll be unimpressed if they just rock up with their whole family at my house one day, regardless of whether there are muddy puddles! 🐷
5. And M. He’s only 1 but apparently going on 17. Constantly watching everything and sussing out what is naughty and not allowed and then immediately doing exactly that! Fingers in plug sockets, dancing on the coffee table, climbing over the back of the couch, breaking into the booze cupboard, and all that before breakfast. He then just grins as if butter wouldn’t melt. I am genuinely concerned what we are raising here…. 😈
